Prof. Ujjwal K Chowdhury, Pearl Academy, Delhi&Mumbai: Fashion Branding Strategies in the Era of Sustainability

Prof Ujjwal K Chowdhury is currently the Dean, School of Media, Pearl Academy, Delhi and Mumbai campuses in India. And he has been earlier the Dean of Media of Symbiosis and Amity Universities, and Whistling Woods School of Communication, all in Maharashtra state of India, apart from being Academic Consultant to Amsterdam Film School, Amsterdam and WHO Media Adviser, Geneva. He has been a practicing media professional having worked with Times of India Daily, Zee TV News, and Business India group of publications. He is a strong votary of integrated learning in general and convergence approach to media education in particular. His interest areas are brand communication, national and international affairs, and education management.

The talk, of 40 minutes, followed by 20 minutes of interaction, titled “Branding Strategies of Sustainable Fashion”, will focus on brand positioning and communication strategies in recent years by 10 distinguished fashion brands from Asia, Europe, Americas and Africa, which are known to be sustainable, eco-friendly and ethical. The talk would also identify core characteristics of any such sustainable, eco-friendly and ethical fashion brands. It will draw conclusions on the top few common or most pursued strategies in this context with emphasis on story-telling, digital branding, cause-related marketing, celebrity endorsement, niche expo positioning, audio visual imagery, et al. The talk is based on secondary research, content analysis of marketing communication of the selected brands, and in-depth interviews of a few ethical fashion designers of Asia. The talk will be supplemented by a ppt presentation, short video clips, and print and hoarding ad creatives, apart from pics and graphics.
